What inspired you to become an academic advisor?
For me, it's all about connecting with students. After spending many years advising high school students as they explored career paths and planned for their futures, I was ready for a new challenge. I realized that the skills I enjoyed most- listening, building relationships, and helping students navigate important decisions- would be a great fit for academic advising. Joining the GW School of Nursing advising team has allowed me to continue doing meaningful work while supporting students through one of the most demanding and rewarding experiences of their lives. I love encouraging students, helping them overcome obstacles, and celebrating their successes along the way.

What advice do you find yourself giving most often?
The advice I give most often is, "Show yourself grace." Nursing students set incredibly high expectations for themselves, and it's easy to become discouraged when things don't go exactly as planned. I frequently remind students that success is about progress, not perfection.

I also encourage students not to compare their journey to anyone else's. Every student has different strengths, challenges, responsibilities, and life experiences. Focusing on someone else's path can distract from recognizing your own growth. Instead, I encourage students to celebrate their progress, learn from setbacks, and trust that they're moving forward one step at a time.

What’s one fun fact about you that students might not guess?
I own way too many costumes! I have a close-knit group of friends who get together for themed crafting weekends, and they absolutely fill my cup. We go all-in with costumes, take ridiculous photos, and then scrapbook the memories afterward.

What’s your favorite quote or piece of advice you live by?
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." – Albus Dumbledore

What’s your favorite hobby or way to relax outside of work?
I'm an avid reader! I know nursing school doesn't leave much time for pleasure reading during the semester, but if you're looking for a good book over break, I'm your gal.

What’s your favorite place on campus?
To be honest, it's my cozy office. Stop by and see if it becomes one of your favorite spots, too!

What’s your favorite lunch spot near campus?
Any place with a good salad or sandwich!

What’s a resource on campus you wish more students took advantage of?
The Student Services Team! I often find that students wait to schedule a meeting until they feel like they're in crisis mode. While I'm always happy to support students through difficult situations, I'd much rather connect with them earlier. Sometimes a 30-minute conversation can help a student gain perspective, adjust a study strategy, connect with the right resource, or simply feel less alone in what they're experiencing.
