Cynthia Allen

Cynthia L. Allen is an assistant professor of nursing and teaches in the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. She has been a nurse practitioner for over 22 years and has practiced in a variety of settings including family medicine, telehealth, pediatrics, school-based health clinics, occupational health, rural health and cardiothoracic surgery. Previously, Dr. Allen was at the Medical University of South Carolina for over 20 years. She served as a clinical assistant professor within the Department of Family Medicine for the past eight years as a primary care provider, preceptor for nurse practitioner and medical students, and Co-PI for the HRSA Residency Education through Simulation in Procedural and Emergency Care Training grant. Dr. Allen is a recipient of the Palmetto Gold Award and was awarded the Golden Lamp Award four consecutive years while at the Medical University of South Carolina. She served as a course coordinator for core FNP courses inclusive of on-campus intensive sessions and assisted with the MSN-DNP innovative online curriculum. Dr. Allen received her PhD and FNP from the Medical University of South Carolina. Her interests include primary health care, cardiovascular wellness initiatives, healthcare simulation, telemedicine and health policy.
