The intent of the Storage and Maintenance of Equipment and Supplies in the SAIL Center policy is to inform staff and faculty of the guidelines for storing and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Reason for Policy
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines to ensure that all equipment in the SAIL Center is in proper working order and is safe for use. This policy includes procedures regarding the storage of supplies to control use and avoid waste.
Who is Governed by this Policy
This policy governs all users of the SAIL Center to include learners, faculty, staff, and visitors. Visitors include any outside agency, contracted services and standardized patients.
Policy
All equipment in the SAIL space will be cleaned and serviced per the manufacturer’s warranty. In between semesters, SAIL Center staff will ensure completion of preventative maintenance and needed repairs. Routine checks of equipment to ensure that the item is in proper working order will be carried out prior to scheduled use.
Ink pens may not be used in the vicinity of any manikin.
All damage must be reported to a SAIL Center staff member. The SAIL Center staff will attempt to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be fixed, the equipment will be sent out for repair. SAIL Center staff will document and track all damage reports.
All sharps will be kept in secure locations until use. Sharps containers will be available wherever sharps are used. Once a sharp container is full, it will be removed from the lab for pick up and disposal by GW Safety and Security.
All chemicals stored and used in the lab will be disposed of in properly labeled receptacles placed throughout the area of use. Once a receptacle is full, it will be removed from the lab for pick up and disposal by GW Safety and Security.
Food items will not be used in any simulation. Food and drink is strictly prohibited in designated areas in the SAIL center.
All SAIL Center equipment and supplies are inventoried and issued by SAIL Center staff to control use and avoid waste.
